Dynamic positioning (DP) is a computer-controlled system to automatically maintain a vessel‘s position and heading by using its own propellers and thrusters. Position reference sensors, combined with wind sensors, motion sensors andgyrocompasses, provide information to the computer pertaining to the vessel’s position and the magnitude and direction of environmental forces affecting its position. PEM  Offshore  Simulation  And  Innovation  Center  is pleased to notify Nigerians and indeed Africa at large of her being  nominated as  the  Maritime  Training  Center  for  the  OPTS  Group  Local  Content Initiative  to  train  and  Certify  Local  Seafarers  to  International  Standard.

The  OPTS  Group  is  made  up  of  Chevron,  AGIP/ENI,  Shell,  Total,  Mobil Producing  Nigeria  and  Addax  Petroleum.  Chevron  has  so far activated and  initiated  their  Contract in which over 40 students/seafarers have been trained and certified by POSAIC academy.

PEM Offshore Simulation and Innovation Centre (POSAIC) was approved as a Dynamic Position (DP) training center following the N.I audit which was conducted by N.I. officials last month. This is indeed a great news for all seafarers within Nigeria and Africa at large. POSAIC has also in addition been accredited by DNV-GL and ABS, with world class equipment from KONGSBERG. POSAIC is now fully ready to welcome seafarers from Nigeria, Africa and the whole world to our simulation center.

PEM Offshore Limited has signed a multi-million dollar contract with Kongsberg Maritime for the supply of a full suite of Offshore Anchor Handling, Dynamic Positioning, Power Management and Crane Simulation systems. The new simulators will form the main infrastructure for a world-class offshore simulation training centre and the first of its kind in Nigeria and West Africa.

The new training centre will be located in Lagos and serve to support the training of local and foreign offshore personnel involved in offshore oil and gas operations, underpinning a growing market demand for highly competent and qualified personnel for this high risk environment.
